It is my last blog entry from Maraland. It has been a wonderful time since November, 2009 when I came to this wonderful place as Deputy Commissioner. On 1st June, 2012 the Govt of Mizoram has posted me in the Secretariat which I am going to join very soon. The journey which started in 2009 is finally getting over. For an IAS officer, the first district charge is like the first love. It is more truer for me... I was so much involved in different affairs that how this time has passed I could not gauge.
This journey had many moments of triumph and failure, of enthusiasm and cynicism, of child like curiosity and a grown up like maturity.... It was a mix of everything. The visits to villages, their love and care, their demands and our plans, its unforgettable. Governance is like a flowing river, we can not say that this is the last stage of development, likewise, only last day we were having discussions over next plan, various schemes, improvement of hospitals etc.... Suddenly I got this news which was a big surprise and shows the confidence which the Government is reposing in me.
It was the wish of the Almighty that I should serve this place and that's why sufficient time, opportunity and resources were put at our disposal and we were commanded to perform our best. Challenges were huge.... in every sector we were among the bottom..be it agriculture or education or connectivity or health..... Today at least with the grace of God and with proper team work, we can proudly say that Saiha is among the better districts of Mizoram although we can not change the geography but we can change our conditions which we did.
I still recall with a sense of pride of various achievements which we had accomplished... be it Lodaw road, Kaoao birdge, Turmeric Processing plant in Khopai, Micro Hydro Power Plants, improvement of hospital infrastructure, improvement of town roads, several other structures like Halls, Play grounds, VC Court Buildings.. I am particularly proud of students who continued to excel in their endeavor, our MBSE HSLC results have improved, in MPSC examinations our students are getting selected.... Although it looks small but these are quite significant and shows a missionary zeal which our students are having and a positive approach to handle these despite of several handicaps which they have because of remoteness.
Several matters/initiatives which I wanted to take up, could not do much like improving agricultural productivity and modernisation of agricultural sector, development of cottage industry, skill development of our youth, construction of a auditorium, indoor stadium, district park etc.... I feel we could have done better.. but perhaps time was not ripe.
A bright future is ahead for Maraland and I am sure the people will be able to take the calling of the time and not only grab the opportunity but also create a niche for themselves. Kaladan Multimodal Project, NTPC Hydro Power Plant etc are going to play a vital role in shaping the destiny of this place. Look East Policy holds great opportunity when the trade route etc will be opened up. The river Kolodyne surrounding which this culture has developed will take the place to a new height and I wish I should be able to witness it.
Long Live Maraland, Mara Culture and All the beautiful people living in this area which I had the opportunity to serve for such a long time.

Our lovely Kunal
It is a big surprising for your loving people as we can't do either.
You have served such long years to this land as a day or two.
Some years have been passed like one day as we enjoy your good services
and well done to us. Many Officers had been posted here and
they all had seen what you have seen but no one could
conquered as you have done. we really proud you.
As you have mentioned that we are still in the bottom;
be it education, healt/sanitation, economic and social etc.
However, you have made alot of courages and oportunity
which will open our mind and heart. Poverty and illiteracy
will be surely decrease as you inspired students and supports
from all corners. You fulfilled those who thurst in continuation
of education and right justice. The Gov't schemes and
policy which you have righty implemented are alot to mention.
And there are alot to discuss and to give you thanks.
We proud you but we are angry as you have to leave us
like omnipotent. We'll be missing for you used to read
our mind and console our pains when you'll have to leave
us with great thanks and many hopes. However, just remember
that we can't forget you and we don't allow you
to forget us either, especially the needy students
you have consoled with love and tender. Hope that someday
our youngsters w'll meet you with great thanks and happy
for you have opened up many things.
May all your well done be perpetul on this land
and in your mind wherever you go
Do visit us again…
Samaw Kunal, People's D.C of Siaha
We are really proud you. we don't allow you to leave us.
We can't not go alone whether there's any other officers
Re dreams of what you have done to us and
ask you not to abandon from your heart.
Remember your loving people wherever you'll be.
But yet not we ready to pay you...
We need you more to support and inspire our needy students...
Hope to meet you someday with a bundle of joy.
Dear Kunalji
Thank you so much for the love you have shown to my people. You do things in action, there will never be another great D.C like you again in our District. You are the people's D.C. and the best D.C that Maraland had so far....We will miss your absence. You have known us better than any officers we had so far from outside...please always keep us close to your heart, you do know that we love you like no other. Your good deeds will not go in vain. In my opinion, I feel that Mizoram Govt is envy of ur good deeds to the Mara people, thats why they need you in the capital. God Bless You and your family.
Dear Puhpa Kunal..
Knowing that you are leaving our District is really sad and disappointing. You will always be remembered as "The Best D.C" we hve so far. Continue to remain strong and faithful in your work. I thanked God, for having had a great opportunity meeting you, a year ago.Your vision for Maraland and its people was amazing. thank you so much for the help and your kind and loving gestures towards my people. God bless you and have a great future....
Someday you will harvest the seeds you have sowed here in Maraland. You will always be remembered. Good luck and happiness always !
There's a saying, "All good things must come to an end," but in this case it will be different and that's the special part. Thank you.
It felt like few days but you had really been in Maraland for nearly 3 years, Incredible! It felt like few days to us. That's the kind of memory and fondness you brought to our land and our people during your stay here in our land. Thanks to you and Pihno Suman for bringing back the good work culture; trust and confidence amongst government servants by setting a good example for others to follow in your respective offices. It was awesome to follow your google calendar throughout the year allowing us to know what is going on in this an important office. Your good works on web and IT related initiatives have truly bridged the gap between the government and the stakeholders too.
For Maraland, you have finished the races; kept the faith. You and your family will be missed but not forgotten; out of sight yet not out of our minds. Wishing you all the very best in all your future works; and may God bless you always!!
Atlahpa ta Mapha Sy!
Kunal Sir,
The first time i saw you sitting in your Chamber;PD sent me for your signature but then i had a little moment of chats with you in the midst of such pressing time. Here's the thing i realise- i saw there's a limelight before you against the people and Maraland. So time comes by and indeed there's so many light that had enlightened under your humble and smooth guidance and leadership within Saiha District. But it was a big suprise and agony for us to hear the news of you leaving the place you hold in Maraland and of course, in our Community!! Those an already improved works you had mentioned were just a mere of your deeds. So many other plans like - Replacement of all Transformers within Saiha Town, Improvement of Vety Hospital etc. would have to be done without you as your presence fades against the Remains.
Being youth, compactly tightened by strong and energetic mind with an exaggerated new logistic and an enthusiastic new ideas, you have so many more plans for Saiha District even on your last day of journey in Maraland but no more time permits as the journey has been abrupt with Red-Letter! Hope those shall not be faded and vanished as the haze of your presence fades away and yet our esteemed Officer shall kindly shared the ideas and views for Saiha District to enhance and broaden his Memento which has already begun since two and half year ago.
With highly appreciation of your deeds for Maraland I give you my Salute of Farewell!!
Puhpa Kunal,
lot of students like me who Stay away from home most of the time in other part of country are happy to have you as our DC.
For years we dream of better Siaha and better Maraland Distt. But what we hear from this side of country is just corruption and change of power in the MADC.Lot of the officers come and goes without doing any good work for the society we lives in.They failed to achieved their duty as Civil servant.
But then you came and changed the scenario. You mingled with us,the natives of Siaha well. You treasure our society like none of your predecessors. You travelled the tough terrains of Maraland. You helped to bring what developments we need little by little-Kaoao birdge, Turmeric Processing plant in Khopai, Micro Hydro Power Plants etc...
As for today the Mizoram govt entrust you with bigger role.Hope you will continue to shine for the rest of Mizoram too.
God be with you for the brighter days ahead.
As you cross the river kaochao(kolodyne) Maraland will be missing one of her best administrator..
Lastly Thank You for all the wonderful works you have had done.
Do visit again Maraland.
Dear Mara's Kunal
we mara people wants to give you thanks but we can do nothing; so sorry but just take our hearty congratulations for well done to us.
please remember us wherever you are..
we wish if you could serve us again.
May God Bless You!
Dear Kunal
I am sorry to have to ask you a off-topic question.
We have a river named Kaladan which originates from Maraland, where the river is called Beino or Kolodyne. Could you tell me the name Kolodyne is a Mara word or is it simply a different pronunciation of Kaladan?
The reason is we are having a situation with Bengali Kala, who claim that Kaladan river is named after their race, Kala.
Regards
Nay Aung
Dear Mr Kunal,
I just visit your blog and found this message of your "farewell to Maraland." I want to thank you and Mrs Kunal (SP) so very much for all the vision, plan and implementation you put together for the development of our beloved Maraland. Due to financial constraint, one can only do so much. You have sincerely wished our people well and you have done what you can. You left a lasting legacy in Maraland, with a greater future.
May the Lord continue to give you wisdom and strength as you take up your new assignment! May our Lord Jesus Christ bless you and your family! May his presence, protection, provision and promise be very dear and near to you.
A tlahpata, ma pha sy!
Yours for the service of God and the land,
Laiu Fachhai
