Castle of Beino (Kolodyne)

In the second week of December, 2011, we went out to explore the Western Region of Saiha which remains cut-off for most part of the year owing to incessant rains and consequent bad and muddy roads. Once, the monsoon season gets over, the repair season starts and thus after letting concerned agencies to repair the road we set on our tour to Phura, Palak, Lomasu, Lodaw, Lungpuk villages. We were still unsure about connectivity, but were assured by the people that to reach Lomasu, we have to walk a little bit which we seem was around 2-3 kms, not much for me but considering the company of my small daughter and SP Saiha, it seems to be little challenging, more so in darkness with stones spread over what we call road and that too on a steep slope. However, it was a good walking in the company of my daughter when she was singing her newly leanrt A B C D.... We reached Lomasu in complete dark with handheld kerosene lit mashals(torches).
My Team Getting Ready for Sail
It was next day when we set out for a mesmerizing boat ride in the river Beino (Kolodyne) from Lomasu to Lodaw and to Saphaw which has the Castle of River Beino.

The castle is simply superb. A geological creation and needs exploration. Its beauty cant be seen through these photos but can be felt only by going there. It is just 15 mins motor boat ride from Lodaw village. The road to Lodaw village is nearing its completion now, so it can be visited anytime during lean water season. It is said to be a cursed castle (??? cant verify).
See it, feel it and share it...

Magnificent. Thanks Kunal Sir for your discovery. As you rightly indicated, there will surely be local stories which god-king/queen ruled from this castle. Further research will reveal interesting stories.

Your in the service of Maraland,

Laiu Fachhai

Thanks a lot for the above three review from Pu Apo, Dr Laiu and one anonymous. I have corrected the names as per suggestions.
Dr Laui, it was existing and lots of people have seen it. In fact I went there with Dr Rakhu, DMS, Saiha. He has seen it long back. I am you can say publicizing it. with roads coming up to Lodaw, I hope it will be accessible in fair weather. Its an experience worth having.

I see. Still, thanks for publicizing it. What did the local people say? Do they look it as a castle?

I just saw the bigger size of the above photos at your picasa; I must say the structures are amazing. This part of the district is truly blessed with nature's gifts like this and also Pala lake, the biggest lake in Mizoram. And I'm sure this castle will one day become one of the tourist hot-spots soon in the state. I hope your good office too will continue do its part in promoting this spot as you have already started here. This is the first time I've come to know about this castle-like structure; thanks to you and your team. I'm sure it will have many stories associated with it.

When it is accessible easily, it will be one of the best places for pose around in front of the shutterbugs in Mizoram and perhaps India. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Sharing is caring!! May God continue to bless you, your family and all your works in our blessed country.

@Dr Laui: People do take it as a castle and some stories are also there but I could not get those because of time limitation.
@Chakhei^Chakie: Thanks. I has visited the Lodaw road yesterday. It will be completed soon we hope by end of February. Since at many a places rocks are stopping the work as those require blasting. So if you all are dying to see it, from Phura it will be a journey of 1 hr only.

Sir, I saw this wonderful works through maraland.net yesterday when i was sitting for awhile in DIC,Saiha. It is one of the pages that prevails so-called untold mystery of Mara and its a great job that u did for its people by exploring which i suppose never will be. I truely believe there's so much more places where we can slip off the curtain that hides many other mysteries eg: Kaopi Cliff, Mawma Tlah, Leiparo Tlah, etc. I've never been there but hope i would in future.
