Celebration of Chapchar Kut in Saiha

The month of March has started on a good note with lots of fun in the form of celebrations of Chapchar Kut(4th), the main festival of Lushai community and Lyuva Khutla(5th), the main festival of Mara Community. These two festival are traditionally celebrated after the jungle clearance under jhumming activity gets over. In good olden days people used to assemble together and used to dance, feast for 2-3 days. Although now jhumming has been declining but the celebrations have continued.

Even I tried my footsteps on some tradition dances on both days and people commented that I was not bad either.

We had some funny incidents too. In Chapchar Kut, the wooden step was broken while one light weight lady was trying to get on the podium. And then when Pu Sangmanga was trying to fire a bullet then it burst while still he was cocking the gun. Thankingfully it was under control.

On Chapchar Kut the children play the traditional games and it was a fun to watch them.

The parade by the different women groups were quite impressive. They displayed the  dresses wore by different tribes from olden days to modern times. Have a glimpse of it below:-

Cheraw (Bamboo Dance) performance by three groups was quite impressive. Although I saw one girl getting hurt also. There was one kid group which really impressed me.

I tried to capture as many snaps as possible and had a good time watching it and participating in it.
